Successes / outcomes

  • The last report in 2007 demonstrated clear evidence of both policy successes and failures for soil health e.g. recovery of soil pH due to emission controls; continued decline of organic carbon in cropland soils.

Methods / issues being explored

  • This is a rolling national monitoring programme dating back to 1978 which includes traditional and novel methods for soil health assessment. Plant species presence is also recorded at the same sampling locations
