Citizens Soil Sampling Toolkit

The Citizens Soil Sampling Toolkit addresses the concerns of citizens who want to know what levels of chemicals are in their garden, in the surface of bare soil around children’s playground equipment due to environmental toxins. These high-exposure areas are of concern due to potential health impacts. This kit empowers residents to sample their own property, trains them in the use of established principles and protocols, and guides them in the interpretation of results. The site also provides the tools to advocate for environmental health and justice. Acquiring sample results requires laboratory analysis, and the toolkit is primarily focused on soil contaminants such as pesticides and heavy metals PCBs; and soil dioxins (lead, arsenic, cadmium, mercury, selenium, barium, chromium, silver).
